My first few visits happened to Stockholm in the winder and I want to say that February in Stockholm is not the “off-season”, it’s amazing winter experience. I usually say “if you fell in love with a city in the winter, you’ll love it in the summer”. I suggest you how you can fall in love with Stockholm this February.

On top of that, in February there are fewer tourists, it’s more quiet in the city, soft winter light, and that unmistakable Scandinavian feeling.
The Old Town (Gamla Stan)

In winter, Gamla Stan feels especially cozy. I prefer just enjoy the area but also you can:
- wander with no plan
- stop for hot chocolate in a small café
- come in the late afternoon when the lights turn on
Kungsträdgården
In winter Kungsträdgården turns into a public ice rink. I was there in January 2024 and it was so beatiful in the evening. Even if you don’t skate, it’s worth visiting because of the:
- music
- lights
- a lively city vibe
Next to the rink you can order drinks to warm yourself up.
Museums to visit in February
If it’s your first time in the city a recommend to start with basics but it doesn’t mean that these museums are basic.
Vasa Museet
One of the most impressive museums in whole Europe. A massive 17th-century warship raised from the sea after 100 years.

Judiska Museet
A small but deeply meaningful museum located in the Old Town. It tells the story of Jews in Sweden through personal narratives, everyday objects, and carefully curated exhibitions. Quiet, thoughtful, and very human.

Nordiska Museet
Perfect if you want to understand Sweden better: from ancient times to nowadays, daily life, traditions, design, and culture.

Fika and Semla Will Keep Your Spirit Up
February is semla season – a traditional Swedish bun filled with almond paste and whipped cream. Deeply loved by me and strongly associated with February among all Swedes.

Here’s a list of my favorite places where you can try semla:
- Vete-Katten
- Lillebrors bageri (my personal favotite!)
- Grillska Huset
The Best View Over Stockholm in February
Monteliusvägen is still one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Stockholm even in February:
- panoramic views over Gamla Stan
- best at sunset
- a short but very atmospheric walk through
Sauna & Sweden
Winter is the perfect time for sauna in Sweden:
- warm up after long walks
- experience life in Sweden “like a local”
- sometimes combined with cold air or water
This isn’t a tourist attraction, it’s part of Nordic culture we love so much.
